bioaugmentation

Hydrite's water treatment team provides a complete approach to bioaugmentation to help neutralize pH, remove BOD (Biological Oxygen Demand), remove FOG (Fat, Oil, and Grease), and help reduce odors. Bioaugmentation can be used in a variety of industries like municipal wastewater treatment, pulp and paper manufacturing, and food processing.

What is Bioaugmentation?

Bioaugmentation is a bioremediation process that involves the addition of specific strains of microorganisms to contaminated environments to enhance the breakdown of pollutants. This helps wastewater treatment plants manage operational challenges like toxic substances, high organic loads, or variable influent quality.

Facing tough conditions and strict discharge permits, wastewater operators turn to bioaugmentation as a cost-effective solution for addressing short-term issues like system imbalances, or as a longer-term strategy to improve treatment performance without requiring costly upgrades, such as expanding aeration capacity or adding new infrastructure.

Hydrite’s Hydribio is a complete, robust bioaugmentation product used in a variety of wastewater treatment systems to alleviate challenges associated with FOG and hydrocarbons.

Applicatrions

MUNICIPALITY WASTEWATER TREATMENT

  • Wastewater Treatment: Enhances the breakdown of organic matter, improving efficiency and reducing treatment times.

DAIRY & CHEESE PROCESSING

  • Spoilage Prevention: Introduces beneficial bacteria that inhibit spoilage organisms and improve product safety.

  • Cheese Plant Lagoons: Bioaugmentation can be used to introduce targeted microorganisms that accelerate the degradation of high organic load and complex compounds, such as fats, proteins, and lactose, which are typically found in wastewater.

FOOD PROCESSING

  • Fermentation Optimization: Streamlines fermentation processes to enhance flavor and quality of food products.

MEAT PROCESSING

  • Microbial Control: Reduces spoilage and pathogenic bacteria in meat, improving shelf life and safety.

SUGAR PROCESSING

  • Bioaugmentation in sugar processing plant lagoons is used to introduce specialized microorganisms that accelerate the breakdown of organic waste, such as molasses, sugars, and other byproducts from the sugar extraction process.

PULP AND PAPER PROCESSING

  • Bioaugmentation in paper processing plant lagoons involves introducing specific microorganisms that accelerate the breakdown of organic waste, such as lignin, cellulose, and chemicals used in the pulping process.

Industries

Bioaugmentation Technology

Bioaugmentation brings new technology and solutions that are particularly effective in industries such as paper processing, sugar refining, and cheese production, where high organic loads and complex compounds challenge traditional treatment methods.

Liquid, Water-Soluble Packs & Dart Briquettes

These innovative delivery systems ensure the precise and efficient introduction of beneficial microorganisms into wastewater lagoons, promoting rapid biodegradation of organic waste.

Sludge Mapping with Remote Control Sonar Boat

This advanced tool provides detailed maps of lagoon sludge levels, comparing actual capacity with designed capacity. It helps optimize sludge management and ensures that bioaugmentation treatments are applied effectively across the entire system.
