Providing Creative Solutions
Hydrite has a long history in the pulp and paper market, supplying quality paper making chemical solutions for a better production process and finished product. Our product line of bleaching, dechlorination, and reducing agents assist in wood pulping and paper making, prioritizing product stability and cost efficiency to meet rigid quality demands and budget constraints.
Lignin, a component of wood that binds fibers together, is present in wood chips and other wood materials prior to the pulping process. Traditionally a kraft pulping process employed the use of heat, sodium hydroxide, and sodium sulfide to help separate lignin from the cellulose fibers. Now, bisulfite salts are used as a more effective pulp method that produces a sulfite pulp that is softer, brighter, and easier to bleach.
Bisulfite bleaching agents are used for improving the whiteness of mechanical paper pulp, which tends to have higher contents of lignin. The agents cause a chemical reaction with lignin, chromophores, and other color-causing impurities, reducing the pulp’s color.
Chlorine can negatively impact paper quality, which is why pulp and paper producers add bisulfites to water systems to neutralize or eliminate these compounds. Antichlors are used following hypochlorite, chlorine, chlorine dioxide, bleach, and reducing agents to eliminate residual peroxide. This process additionally reduces the release of chlorinated substances into the environment.
In addition to sulfur solutions, Hydrite’s product line of paper foam control agents assists in controlling foam and entrained air so common in wood pulping and papermaking. Onsite testing is available to help determine the optimum product for your system.
Our full line of bisulfites is formulated to assist the pulp and paper industry in making better products more efficiently, while also considering cost reduction and environmental impact. Hydrite additionally offers contract manufacturing services to meet your unique specification requirements.
